Power BI Admin Setup

You need to make sure you have the permissions in place for setting up Power BI Report Apps. Only your Power BI Administrator can enable the permissions for your organization.

If you don’t have a Power BI Administrator

Microsoft 365 Administrator can follow the steps below to assign desired users to Power BI Administrator role.

  1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, select Users > Active Users.

  2. Select the user that you want to assign the role to.

  3. Under Roles, select Manage roles.

  4. Expand Show all by category, then select Power BI administrator or Power Platform administrator.

  5. Select Save Changes

If you have a Power BI Administrator

Your Power BI Administrator needs to follow the steps below to set up permissions for the report's users to be able to install Template Apps.

  1. Go to the Admin portal and select Tenant settings.

  2. Go to Template App Settings and expand Install Template Apps not listed in AppSource.

  3. Control which users in your organization can download and install template apps by following steps below. For your users to be able install the Template App, you will need to Enable it and then select the users (entire org or specific user groups). Then click on Apply to save the changes.

  4. Similar steps need to be done when you expand Install template apps within the Template App settings.
