How to re-enrol your authenticator app after getting a new phone

How to transfer your Smartr365 authenticator app to a new phone, and what to do if your MFA code is not being accepted at login.

How to set up your authenticator app on a new phone for Smartr365 login, and what to do if your authentication code is not being accepted.

Overview

Smartr365 uses an authenticator app (such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator) for multi-factor authentication (MFA). If you have a new phone, you will need to re-enrol your authenticator before you can log in again. If you no longer have your old phone, contact support to reset your MFA enrolment.

If you still have your old phone

  1. On your old phone, open your authenticator app.

  2. Use the app's built-in account transfer or backup feature to move your accounts to your new phone. Both Microsoft Authenticator and Google Authenticator have transfer options in their settings menus.

  3. Once transferred, test that the code generated on the new phone is accepted at the Smartr365 login screen.

If you no longer have your old phone

  1. Contact Smartr365 support and ask for an MFA reset and mention the reason.

  2. After support resets your enrolment, log in at your firm's Smartr365 URL.

  3. When prompted, open your authenticator app on your new phone and scan the QR code shown on screen.

  4. Enter the 6-digit code from the app to complete enrolment.

If your authenticator code is not being accepted

  • Check your phone's time: Authenticator codes are time-based. Enable automatic time sync in your phone's date and time settings.

  • Check the right account: Make sure you are using the code for your Smartr365 entry in the app, not another account.

  • Wait for the next code: Codes rotate every 30 seconds. Wait for the code to refresh and enter it promptly.

  • If codes continue to fail, contact support to reset your MFA enrolment.
