Format requirements
The National Insurance Number must follow the standard UK format:
Two prefix letters, six digits, and one suffix letter (e.g. JG103759A).
The suffix letter must be A, B, C, or D.
Certain letter combinations are not valid as prefixes (e.g. BG, GB, KN, NK, NT, TN, ZZ, and prefixes beginning with D, F, I, Q, U, or V).
Do not include spaces.
If the number entered does not match the required format, a validation error will appear and you will need to correct it before saving.
Why is this needed?
Lenders typically require the National Insurance Number as part of identity verification and to check the applicant's credit history. Providing it accurately in the fact find avoids delays during the application process.
