How to set up Mailchimp

When you connect Mailchimp to Smartr365, the email templates saved in your Mailchimp account become available to choose from when you send emails from Smartr365. Follow the steps in this guide to set it up.

On Mailchimp

To begin, you will need a Mailchimp account. If you do not have one already, you can sign up on the Mailchimp website at https://mailchimp.com/.

After creating your Mailchimp account, generate an API key. Smartr365 needs this key to connect to your Mailchimp account. You can generate it in your Mailchimp account settings.

To generate an API key on Mailchimp, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to the API Keys section of your account.

  2. Click Create New Key.

  3. Name your key. Be descriptive, so you know which app uses that key. You will only see this name and the first 4 digits of the key in your list of API keys.

  4. Click Generate Key.

  5. Click Copy Key to Clipboard. Save your key somewhere secure, because you will not be able to see or copy it again. If you lose this key, you will need to generate a new one and update any integration that uses it.

  6. Click Done.

Choosing the correct editor on Mailchimp

  1. Open your profile settings by clicking your profile picture or name.

  2. Go to the Details section.

  3. Choose the Classic Builder option.

  4. Set it as the default template editor.

Any existing templates will need to be recreated using the classic editor. The template will show as "Classic" when viewing the list.

On Smartr365

You need the System Administrator role for this step. Once the API key has been generated, go to Settings > Branding and paste the API key into the MailChimp Key box.

Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

Troubleshooting

  • Your Mailchimp templates do not appear in Smartr365: check that your Mailchimp account is active, that the key in Settings > Branding is correct and current, and that your templates were built with the Classic Builder.
