How to Change the Phone Number Used for 2FA / MFA Login

Steps to update the mobile number used for two-factor authentication (2FA/MFA) in Smartr365, including the support request required to sync the Azure B2C backend.

This article explains how to change or update the mobile phone number used for two-factor authentication (2FA / MFA) when logging in to Smartr365.

Overview

Smartr365 uses two-step verification (2FA/MFA) to secure adviser logins. A verification code is sent to a registered mobile number by SMS, or via an Authenticator App. If you change your phone number, it must be updated in two places: User Management and the Azure B2C authentication backend. The backend update always requires a support request.

Who Can Update the Phone Number

  • System Administrators can update other users' profile details via User Management.

  • Advisers can update their own profile contact number in User Management.

  • The B2C authentication record update always requires a support request and cannot be self-served.

Step-by-Step

  1. Log in to Smartr365 and go to Settings > User Management.

  2. Locate the user whose number needs updating and open their profile.

  3. Update the mobile phone number and save.

  4. Contact Smartr365 Support to request the B2C authentication record update. Provide:

    • Your full name and firm name

    • The email address associated with your account

    • The new mobile phone number (including country code, e.g. +44 7700 900000)

  5. Support will update the Azure B2C record. Once confirmed, verification codes will be sent to the new number at next login.

Common Issues

  • Code still going to the old number: The B2C backend update may not yet be complete — confirm with support that both steps have been actioned.

  • SMS not arriving on new number: Check the number format (UK numbers need +44, replacing the leading 0). If correct, try switching to the Authenticator App method.

  • Temporary change (device unavailable): If you cannot receive codes on your registered device, contact support immediately — they can update the number in B2C on request.

  • Updating for another user (admin role): System Administrators can update User Management themselves, but still need to contact support for the B2C backend change.
