The chart editor opens when you click Create chart or Add chart on a dashboard, Edit chart on a chart's menu, or Customise first on a report page.
Start from a report or from scratch
The editor has two tabs.
Templates — the ready-made reports, grouped and searchable (Search templates…). Click one to load it onto the Custom tab, where you can check the preview and change it before adding.
Custom — where you set the chart up.
Set up a chart
On the Custom tab:
Title — suggested from what you pick; type your own to replace it.
Visualization — choose Metric (a single number), Bar, Stacked, Line, Pie or Table.
Choose what to show. This depends on the visualization (see below).
Filters — limit the chart to the cases you want. See Filters and date ranges.
Card size — how much space it takes on the dashboard: Small (1×1), Wide (2×1), Large (2×2), Banner (4×1) or Hero (4×2).
The Live preview on the right updates as you go.
When you're happy, click Apply (or Add to dashboard if you came from Customise first). If you close the editor with changes you haven't applied, you're asked to confirm: Discard changes? Your edits to this chart will be lost.
Charts: Show me, Break down by, Then split by
For Bar, Stacked, Line, Pie and Metric:
Show me — what to count or add up, such as number of cases, total mortgage value or commission.
Also show (Bar, Stacked and Line) — click Add another to plot more values side by side.
Break down by — how to split it, such as by adviser, by month or by lender. A Metric shows a single total, so it has no breakdown.
Then split by (Bar, Stacked and Line) — an optional second split, for example adviser by month.
Tables: one Columns list
For a Table, every column is in a single Columns list: the detail columns first (such as client name, adviser, lender), then the value columns (such as mortgage value, commission).
Add a column — click Add column and pick from the list, or search for it.
Reorder — drag a column by its handle (⋮⋮), or select the handle and use the up and down arrow keys. Detail columns always stay above value columns.
Remove — click the ✕ beside the column.
A table needs at least one detail column and one value column.
Why some options are greyed out
Not every field can be combined with every other. For example, a mortgage figure can't be split by a protection-only detail. Options that don't fit with what you've already chosen stay in the list, greyed out. Hover over one to see why and what to change, which is usually to remove the column or filter it names.
Edit a chart later
On the dashboard, open the chart's menu (⋮) and choose Edit chart. The editor opens with the chart loaded. If a chart came from a ready-made report and you want to undo your changes, choose Reset chart instead.
You can also make quick changes without the editor:
Rename — click the chart's title and type.
Add a column to a table — click + Add column on the table itself.
Sort or reorder a table — click a column heading to sort, or drag a heading to move the column. See Work with tables.
